Agua Trails cares about protection of the environment, social wellbeing and fair living wages of staff and providers, and about the protection of our cultural heritage. Over the last couple of years we have been strategic partners in the following projects:

Association of Kayak Guides 'Jacamar' Boca de Sábalos

Agua Trails is a strategic partner in this project, initiated by ProPemse, a Finnish cooperation program in Nicaragua for the economic development of women and excluded populations. An association of local guides was formed, with the idea to offer kayak trips on the San Juan River. This association, named Jacamar, consists of local guides from the small village of Boca de Sábalos (tributary of the San Juan River) that were being trained as tour guides. Our role as strategic partners in the project consists of providing English classes, which was done by Agua Trails´ English speaking tour guide. We encourage our clients to meet the guides and experience their services. The Agua Trails kayak package includes kayaks and guides of Jacamar. [Kayak Expedition Package]

UPAS - Solentiname Islands

We are strategic partners in this ProPemse initiated project as well. The beneficiaries are artisans from the Solentiname Islands: Unión de Pintores y Artesanos de Solentiname (UPAS). The islands are known for skilled craftsmen and women who work with balsa wood, turning the prime product into colorful souvenirs. Apart from this colorful craft, UPAS includes painters from the Solentiname School of Naïve Painting, founded by Poet Ernesto Cardenal. By encouraging artists to sell their work in the offices of Agua Trails in La Fortuna we helped to empower local artists of Solentiname. We encourage our clients to meet the artisans and witness the process of the different types of arts and crafts that are being produced on the islands. The Agua Trails Solentiname package includes a visit to several workshops. [Solentiname Archipelago Package]
